What a breathable membrane does
A waterproof breathable membrane forms a secondary weather-protection layer outside the insulation or sheathing. It is designed to resist wind-driven rain and dust while allowing water vapour from inside the building assembly to move outward, helping reduce condensation risk when the complete roof or wall system is correctly designed and installed.
